Understanding Ontario learning, one grade at a time.

Grades 5–6: strengthen the foundations

TutorCraft offers Ontario study support for Grades 5–10. In Grades 5 and 6, mathematics connects number, algebra, data, spatial sense and financial literacy, with social-emotional learning woven through mathematical work. Children practise fractions, decimals, measurement and explaining their reasoning. Language learning brings together communication, reading and writing. Science and technology explores living systems, matter and energy, structures and mechanisms, and Earth and space systems. Social studies considers heritage, identity, people and environments.

Grade 6: understand the EQAO milestone

The Grade 6 EQAO assessment covers reading, writing and mathematics learned in the junior division. It is not a separate school subject. Ask your child to explain a calculation, support a reading answer with evidence, or revise a short paragraph. These everyday habits are more useful than memorizing answers. Use official EQAO sample materials to understand the assessment format; TutorCraft worksheets are supplementary practice, not official test papers.

Grades 7–8: prepare for secondary school

In Grade 7, students develop proportional reasoning, integer operations and algebraic thinking; in Grade 8, they extend work with equations, percentages and geometric relationships. Data and financial decisions remain important. Science builds investigation skills through topics such as ecosystems, mixtures, fluids and cells. History and geography become distinct subjects, while language work asks for clearer arguments and more thoughtful reading. French, the arts, and health and physical education continue alongside these core subjects.

Grade 9: de-streamed mathematics

Ontario's de-streamed Grade 9 mathematics course, MTH1W, gives students a common foundation rather than separating them into academic and applied math courses. Its strands include mathematical thinking and making connections, number, algebra, data, geometry and measurement, and financial literacy. Students connect equations, graphs, coding and real situations. The Grade 9 EQAO mathematics assessment draws on this course. Grade 9 science includes biology, chemistry, physics and space; geography examines Canadian issues and connections.

Grade 10: literacy and course choices

In Grade 10, mathematics depends on the student's course: topics may include linear systems, quadratic relationships and trigonometry. Science deepens work on areas such as chemical reactions, climate, light and living systems, while history focuses on Canada since the First World War. Students normally first take the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test, or OSSLT, in Grade 10. Reading different text types and writing clear, supported responses help build the literacy skills it checks.

Make home practice match this week's lesson

Start with your child's grade, subject and current classroom topic, then choose a short lesson or worksheet. Compare the wording with the teacher's instructions, especially in secondary courses. Let your child attempt a few questions before opening the answer key, and discuss the steps rather than only the final score. Classroom pacing and accommodations vary, so the teacher's course outline remains the best guide. TutorCraft supports practice; it does not replace teaching or guarantee an assessment result.

  1. 01A rectangle has length 5 cm and width 5 cm. Find its area in cm².

    Show answer

    25 cm²: multiply 5 × 5.

  2. 02A rectangle has area 44 cm² and length 4 cm. Find its width in cm.

    Show answer

    11 cm: divide 44 by 4.

  3. 03A rectangle has length 2 cm. Its width increases from 9 cm to 12 cm. By how many cm² does its area increase?

    Show answer

    6 cm²: 2 × (12 − 9).

A few useful answers

Frequently asked questions

Is TutorCraft free?

Yes. The TutorCraft learning platform is currently free to use. Create an account to use its study tools. Booking human tutoring is separate from using the platform.

Which Ontario grades does it cover?

The Ontario curriculum browser covers Grades 5–10. Choose the grade and subject that match your child's current work; secondary course expectations can differ.

Does it match what my child learns in class?

Topics are organized around the Ontario curriculum, but teachers choose the order and depth of lessons. Check the topic and course against your child's class materials before assigning practice.

Can we use it for EQAO or OSSLT practice?

Use it to strengthen the underlying mathematics, reading and writing skills. TutorCraft is not an official EQAO provider, and its generated activities are not replicas of EQAO or OSSLT assessments.

Can I print worksheets with answers?

Yes. Generate a worksheet, choose to include an answer key, and download the PDF to print. The public sample below shows the kind of practice available before signing up.
